Unsharp Mask

The scanner reads the light from the bed at a 45 degree angle. Since light does not always reflect at a 45 degree angle, most color and grayscale scanned images appear slightly blurred and need sharpening. MiraScan can apply sharpness automatically to the image and make images a crisp look. We recommend some amount of sharpness be applied to every color or grayscale scanning images especially in conjunction with rotation or descreening. When you click on the sharpen or blur option, MiraScan automatically sharpens or blurs the image. If you wish to modify the default settings, click Unsharp mask and a dialogue box will then appear. Auto Sharpening compares a pixel to the pixels around it and adds contrast. High values increase the amount of contrast and sharpen the image,or vise versa.

From the Unsharp Mask dialog box, you can adjust the sharpness accurately. Dragging the scroll bar to the left will blur the image, and dragging the scroll bar to right will sharpen it. You can also directly enter the desired value into the Amount entry box to change the sharpness. When you get the desired effect, press the OK button to confirm your settings and close the dialog box;. If you are not satisfied with the adjustment, press the Cancel button to cancel your settings and close the dialog box.
