FAQ-Frequently Asked Questions

Problem: When the installation program asks to reboot, my computer freezes.

Solution: The rebooting process during the MiraScan Quick Install works with most computer systems. However, if you encounter any difficulty, simply reboot your system, and everything will return to normal. The files have already been copied to your hard drive and the installation is complete. Simply reboot and try scanning.

Problem:I've had my scanner for a while and it has worked fine. This morning I turned it on and the busy light came on rather than the ready light. Why is this?

Solution: Check with your scanner's manufacturer. Most likely, you need a new light bulb, but refer to your scanner's owner's manual for more information.

Problem: I get an error message that says, Could not connect with SCSI card.”

Solution: This is usually due to a hardware conflict. Most of the time, your SCSI card is conflicting with another card in your system. You should try to change the address on the SCSI card and see if that resolves the conflict. Also, contact your scanner’s manufacturer to see if they have any new information.

Problem: I get an error message that says, Could not find scanner.

Solution: Most likely, your scanner is not properly terminated. MiraScan is reporting that it can find the SCSI card, but it can’t communicate with the scanner through it. Make sure that the scanner is turned on, plugged in, and ready. Check termination and SCSI ID conflicts.

Problem: I've been using my scanner for a while with no problems, but recently something strange occurred and my system locked up. Now every time I try to acquire the scanner, I can't find it. Sometimes I get into MiraScan and the crop box and the select box will not move.

Solution: MiraScan stores your last settings in its resource file. If your computer locks up while you are using the scanner, it's possible for these settings to have been corrupted. Try holding down the Alt key when you Acquire MiraScan. This will reset the defaults in our software and you will be able to use it. If you still cannot get into your software, simply reload MiraScan software from the original disk.
